Announcement:

The conference is now an online only event. It will take place from 4th August to 6th August, while online resources will become available from 3rd August. The virtual space of the online conference is hosted on Moodle system. All registered participants have been invited to get access to the virtual space by email. If you are registered but have not received the invitation, please contact the Executive Organisation Chair Prof. Hong Zhu by email at hzhu@bbrokes.ac.uk.

Mar. 17 2020:
1> New conference date for IEEE BDS and all co-located conferences: August 3-6, 2020. The venue remains the same (Keble College, Oxford, UK). If you currently have an existing accommodation booking for the original April dates and want to attend in August: we will provide a facility to convert your booking to the new dates soon.

Making this decision has not been easy. This decision was made by the joint steering committee of the co-located conferences after numerous discussions and telephone calls, several rounds of consultations with IEEE's Event Organisation Team, and renegotiations with the venue host. We have taken into consideration the current state and predictions officially announced by the UK government and many other countries. We have carefully compared various options, such as running the conferences online, completely canceling the conferences, and running it as it was scheduled plus online presentations for those who cannot attend, etc., assessed the impacts on both the academic and scientific quality of our event, the health and well-beings of conference delegates, as well as the financial viability. We believe that this is the most responsible reaction to the current situation of Covid-19 outbreak.

2> Authors of accepted papers who cannot attend the August event on site will have the option to present their paper remotely.

Call For Papers:

As computing systems become increasingly larger, more complex, distributed, and integrated, Big Data technologies and services are ever more vital. IEEE BigDataService 2020 provides an internationally leading forum for researchers and practitioners in academia and industry to exchange innovative ideas and share latest results, experiences and lessons learned in this crucial domain.

BigDataService seeks to include work from a wide range of technologies and domains – including (but not limited to) smart systems (e.g. in cities, automobiles, farms, etc.), cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things applications, healthcare, and social networks and media. Technological aspects of the event include service-oriented technologies, machine learning, predictive analytics, data modelling, system architectures, data mining, and simulation.

The conference will be co-located with IEEE SOSE 2020, IEEE MobileCloud 2020 and IEEE DAPPS 2020, and IEEE AITest 2020, and will consist of main tracks and special tracks.

The conference seeks the submission of high-quality full papers limited to up to 8 pages (IEEE format) in length. The submission of short, demo or industry papers limited to up to 4 pages (IEEE format) is possible, for works that make significant contributions, but are still in progress, or works of smaller scale that can be reported briefly.

The deadline for paper submission is on December 20th 2019. All accepted papers will be included in the IEEE proceedings. Selected papers will be invited to submit extended articles to Springer's Intl. J. of Data Science and Analytics, special issue on Mobile and Big Data Services on the Edge and the Cloud.

Paper Submission & Publication:

Papers must be written in English. All papers must be prepared in the IEEE double column proceedings format. All accepted papers will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press (EI‐Index) and included in IEEE Digital Library. For publication, at least one author is required to register at the full rate and present the paper at the conference for the paper to be included in the final technical program and the IEEE Digital Library. Selected papers will be invited to submit extended articles to Springer's Intl. J. of Data Science and Analytics, special issue on Mobile and Big Data Services on the Edge and the Cloud.

IEEE Big Data Service - Workshops and Tutorials

Workshop Proposals

Workshop proposals should include a 1-2 page summary of the topic and the names and affiliations of 3-4 chairs and program committee members who have made a commitment to participate, where it should be stated clearly the primary contact person to whom correspondence should be directed. A mix of industry and academic panel members are recommended.

In the page summary the organizers should present clearly:

  • The motivation of the workshop and its relatedness to the topics of the conference
  • The specific topics covered and possible application areas
  • The reviewing process, and the expected number of participants
  • If the same workshop has been organized before and why its continuation is needed


Workshop proposals must be sent by email to the PC Chairs by November 8th.

Tutorial Proposals

Tutorial proposals should include a 1-2 page summary of the topic and the names, affiliations and short cvs of the presenters. They should clearly state the primary contact person to whom correspondence should be directed and the importance and relevance of the tutorial to the conference. An estimated duration must also be provided and the expected audience. Finally, any special equipment required for the presentation (besides a laptop and a projector that will be available anyway) must be noticed in advance.

Tutorial proposals must be sent by email to the PC Chairs by November 8th.
